We Have ONE GOAL
Chances are my children, Jasper and Ellis, will have cancer one day, or they will have go through the pain of watching me or my husband, Trevor, battle cancer because these are the facts:
About half of all men and one-third of all women in the US will develop cancer during their lifetimes.
No one knows the exact cause of most cases of cancer.
There’s no sure way to prevent cancer.
Jasper and Ellis will have to experience the pain of cancer in some way in their lifetime, and it feels as if there is nothing I can do about it. No way to prevent them from feeling the pain I have felt; the pain I felt having to watch my mom fight cancer, the pain I felt when we lost her way too early, and the pain I continue to feel because she is no longer here. I would do anything to shield my children from that deep heartache.
I felt completely helpless until Pelotonia. Pelotonia is a grassroots bike tour with one goal - end cancer. This year I will be riding 50 miles and raising more than $1250 to help work towards this goal! Over two years ago, when we first joined Pelotonia, it was largely in memory of my mom, but since it has become more about our future. A future where none of us will be devastated by the word cancer; a world where we may never utter the word cancer again. This world is only in our dreams right now, but it is a dream we can make a reality if we all work together.
Pelotonia was started in 2008 and has become one of the top athletic fundraisers in the country. In 2014, 7,270 Riders from 41 states and 10 countries participated along with 3,700 Virtual Riders and 2,617 Volunteers. Together, they raised over $21 million, bringing Pelotonia's grand fundraising total to $82.3 million in 6 years.
Why do I feel so strongly that being a part of Pelotonia can help us reach a world without cancer? Because Pelotonia's year-round operational expenses are covered by extremely generous funding partners, Pelotonia directs 100% of the donations to life-saving cancer research at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center-James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute. For more information about the groundbreaking advances already funded by Pelotonia, check out http://pelotonia.org/about/money/.
I am grateful to raise funds for Pelotonia and I hope you will support me in reaching my commitment this year. With 100% of your donation to my ride going directly toward improving lives through innovative research, you can rest assured that every single dime will make a difference. Together we are unstoppable. Please join me in making the end of cancer a reality.
